Vaxholm

The town has grown around the fortress and the military’s influence has been significant from the 16th century until 2004. The municipality encompasses around 70 islands, 57 of which are inhabited. Bogesundslandet is a large green area with beautiful hiking trails that cover nearly half of the municipality’s area. Fishing has historically had a major impact on the town’s character and the sea remains an important and vibrant part of the town. There are many marine businesses as well as visitor companies that organize activities on the water.
